The Blind Man

This project is based on a painting by Gustav Klimt called Der Blinde (The Blind Man in German). I was immediately drawn to the unique character of the model and how Klimt uses lighting to accentuate his features. I took the main concept from his painting and interpreted the details to bring the painting to life in CG. It was a great learning experience in lighting and look-dev.
I decided to revisit this character, which was part of my term 2 coursework at Think Tank. I was lucky enough to get feedback from a few of my favorite artists, and so I would like to extend a warm thanks to Alex Sizov, Jon Catapia, and Alex Huguet who gave me some great feedback and endless inspiration during the process.
For textures, I used a 3D Scan Store texture as a starting point for the skin, a modified HDRI from Poly Haven, and some light textures from Cave Academy. Let me know if you want to know more!

Here is an earlier render in which I was comparing one of my renders with a reference image to see if the look-dev, and overall "feeling" of the project were working.

The XGen guides are color-coded by description, and the hairs without guides were done using interactive grooming.
